Movies...

We saw Iron Man about 3 weeks ago, and so far, it's the best Marvel movie out there. If you're at all into the stuff, or just like cool technology, you should watch this.

Gwyneth Paltrow somehow managed to be unannoying, and slightly attractive in this. I don't know how they pulled that shit off, but they did. CGI does wonders.

We saw Prince Caspian (the new Narnia movie) last Tuesday, and it was pretty good. Overall, both movies have been pretty good, but there's always a few elements that leave these movies wanting.

Proper casting (Caspian was described a number of times as "golden-haired" in the books, and Lewis had a pretty good idea of how he wanted Caspian to look, yet they get someone dark-haired. Not a big gripe, but still) would be a great one.

The whole stupid tree battle was kinda lame - in the books, Aslan riled up all the sleeping naiads, dryads, TONS of sleeping Narnians, and brought this army to the battlefield. In the movie, it looked like a rip-off of LotR.

Finally, the little flirty budding romance crap between Caspian and Susan was weak. It never happened in the books, and it's just a stupid addition to the movie. Of course, Susan's part in this movie had to be played up - by the book, she doens't have a ton of screen time - but turning her into female-Legolas in the middle of the battle was kinda stupid.

To round things off, we saw the new Indiana Jones flick on Thursday night. If you haven't seen it, too bad, because I'm going to spoil bits and pieces.

All told, it was a decent movie, but Last Crusade and Raiders of the Lost Ark were better. We could have done without Shia LaBeouf swinging on vines with the monkeys, and instead, having him pick up Indy's dropped whip, and hurting himself with it.

There's more cool movies coming out soon - Hancock looks pretty good, even if Will Smith is turning into Tom Cruise's pet.

Dexter

If you aren't watching it, you suck balls.

The show rocks, but it was supposed to be season finale tonight, dammit.

I got myself all psyched up for the finale, and it's got another week to go!

What sucks even more, is that I'm trying to cut bills, so that's another week that I have to keep paying for Showtime!

Dammit!

Dammit dammit dammit!

Fred Claus...

Not too shabby. If you're bored, go see it.

I could have done with more Vince Vaughn and less feel-good family crap, though.

The Office - American Style

So, I finally started watching the American version of The Office.

The previews really didn't interest me, as it was released well after I had already became a fan of the BBC version.

Fortunately, a co-worker conned me into watching some clips, and I got hooked.

There's definitely some pretty blatant borrowing from the BBC version (at least, early on), but the American edition has established a flavor all it's own.

I've finished Season One and Season Two, and just picked up Season Three last night. Season Four starts in a week or two, and I'm almost ready for it.

Great, great stuff, and it's already outlasted the BBC version, which makes me quite happy.

WATCH IT!

More Ferry Corsten...

...is good Ferry Corsten!

I just picked up L.E.F. (Loud, Electronic, Ferocious) at Best Buy, and it's freakin' AMAZING.

Few artists can put out an album that I enjoy every single track of, but L.E.F. is one of those albums.

Galaxia is some awesome stuff, but what I'm extremely impressed with are the two big vocal tracks of the album, "Into The Dark" and "Down On Love". Expect to see these on movie soundtracks soon.

I strongly urge you to pick up the album - you won't be disappointed.

Stefy!

Go listen to Stefy.

It reminds me of cool 80's pop and 90's freestyle, while maintaining a feel all it's own.

Totally awesome stuff.

I first heard the remix of "Chelsea" on BPM (XM 81) a month or so ago, but since gotten my hands on a couple of other un-remixed tracks from The Orange Album, and it's great stuff!

I'm going to go buy the album as soon as I get to a store with a real music selection (I don't buy music at Wal-Mart...).

I suggest you do the same.

Alanis Rules!

This is so hilarious.

Alanis Morissette's April Fool's gift is so damned cool!

You know what's awesome, too? She's so much hotter than Fuggie. God, I wish the terrorists would drop a nuke on that dumb cunt.

Movies Again

So, we're over at Wal-Mart today, and I picked up "My Super Ex-Girlfriend".

I <3 Uma Thurman. She's so damned gorgeous.

Oh, and the movie is good, too. You should buy it. If you go to Wally World, you can buy it, and get Bedazzled (Elizabeth Hurley, honka honka!) for only $2 more.

Movies, Music

Picked up Clerks II tonight. Quite possibly the best View Askewniverse movie Smith has done, and damned hilarious.

On another note, the musical group "Bond" kicks ass.

I already had their debut CD, and I got a copy of their 3rd CD for $5.00 today, and it's absolutely awesome.

Check them out at http://www.bondmusic.net/

School For Scoundrels

Hilarious.

Saw the movie poster for Eragon - it's due out Christmas.

Watched the trailer online tonight, it's gonna be sweet.

Arya is played by Sienna Guillory (she played Jill Valentine in Resident Evil: Apocalypse), which is badass. She's hot enough to be a hot elf chick.

Unfortunately, it looks like Guillory won't be in the next Resident Evil movie (Resident Evil: Extinction).

Lame. If she's truly not in it, they better have a damned good story about why she isn't.

Blog Of The Dead...

So, my Romero Of The Dead collection is complete - I THINK.

I picked up a couple more movies today to complete things.

I now have:

Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Night of the Living Dead (1990)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Day of the Dead (1985)
Land of the Dead (2005)

That appears to be all of the Romero Zed-movies. There's other Romero horror stuff, to be sure, but I don't think he did any other Living Dead type of stuff.

Of course, I'm not done buying Zed-movies. While movies like House of the Dead are kinda lame - though you do get to see Erica Durance (Lois Lane from Smallville) topless - they're not bad, they do have the nasties, and they have gunplay and melon-explosions.

An interesting side note about Erica Durance that I just found out - not only has she guest-starred on Stargate: SG-1 (one of my favorite shows), she's the sister-in-law of Christopher Judge (Teal'c), and in January of 2005, she married David Palffy, who plays (or played) Sokar and Anubis on the same show.

Palffy was also Castillo, the main evil bad monster dude in House of the Dead

Crazy.

Isaac Hayes Is A Bitch

So, this first part isn't NEW news, but it serves as the background for the rest of this post:

Scientologist Hayes leaves 'South Park'

BY ERIN CARLSON | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said he feels a line has been crossed.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry toward religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply: "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology. ... He has no problem - and he's cashed plenty of checks - with our show making fun of Christians."

Last November, "South Park" targeted the Church of Scientology and its celebrity followers, including actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, in a top-rated episode.

Stone said he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."

(Original Source)

I just saw a new episode of South Park tonight...

South Park episode pokes fun at Hayes

Animated TV series South Park has poked fun at departed star Isaac Hayes and his Scientology beliefs by killing off his character Chef in the opening episode of the next series.

Hayes quit the popular programme last week accusing its creators of promoting intolerance and bigotry. It is thought his outrage stemmed from an episode last November which mocked fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise, and insinuated the actor was a repressed homosexual.

In the opening show of the 10th series, to be aired in the US on Wednesday, the controversial religion is satirised again, as Chef is brainwashed by the thinly disguised 'Super Adventure Club' and reportedly depicted as a paedophile.

With lines patched together from previous episodes, Chef repeatedly tells children he wants to "make sweet love" to them before suffering a barrage of horrific accidents - including falling off a bridge, being burned, stabbed and mauled by wild animals - before dying.

At his funeral, characters express anger at his recent poor judgement, saying: "A lot of us don't agree with the choices the Chef has made in the last few days.

"Some of us feel hurt and confused that he seemed to turn his back on us."

Apparently referring to Scientology, another blasts "that fruity little club for scrambling his brains".

(Original Source)

GREAT episode.

The rumor goes, due to the interference by Scientology douchebags like Tom Cruise, Comedy Central has put out an edict - no more mention of Scientology in the show, or the episode won't be aired.

Exit Scientology, enter Super Adventure Club.

Beautifully executed episode, and a very nice slap in the face at Isaac Hayes and his quack "handlers".

There are some claiming that Hayes isn't responsible for this, that his handlers are, but, you know, who really fucking cares?

If the guy is a Scientologist, he's a fucking nutjob in the first place, so he deserves everything thrown at him.

V For Vendetta

So, this Friday should present an interesting movie.

Already, Hollywood has fucked it up.

Note first that I haven't seen the movie, but will this week.

According to IMDB, the character "V" has a "real" name of "William Rookwood".

In the comic series, V's true identity is never revealed, nor is his face ever shown.

Undoubtedly, we're going to see him unmasked in the movie, which is completely and utterly lame.

Evey, the other lead character (played by Natalie Idiot Portman in the movie), toys with the idea of unmasking V, but decides not to, as she concludes, the identify of V is insignificant, compared to the idea of V, and revealing that identity would diminish the idea.

That aside, I'll reserve further judgement until I see the movie.

What I will comment on are my predictions on the anticipated reactions.

I fully expect the left to start touting this movie as an example of why conservatives are evil.

You see, in the comic series, big bad evil "right-wingers" setup a fascist government in England, with the help of their corporate cronies.

They systematically eliminate racial minorities, homosexuals and "radicals" (i.e. those critical of the new regime) in a Nazi-esque pattern of concentration camps, medical experimentation, mass execution and, of course, the ovens.

Bad news, basically. Not a nice place to live.

Enter "V". A mysterious character dressed as Guy Fawkes, quoting Shakespeare, who begins eliminating key people in the government, and waging (what starts as) a one-man war on the fascist regime.

Here's where I see a problem with the anticipated reaction from the left.

The posters for the movie are emblazoned with:

PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID OF THEIR GOVERNMENTS. GOVERNMENTS SHOULD BE AFRAID OF THEIR PEOPLE.

Throughout the series, this is the idea that V is trying to convey, in his attempt at rallying the populace.

This is where the left is going to lose themselves.

In the series, the "right-wingers" seizing power is preceeded by a couple of major events.

In the early 1980's, Labour wins control of the Parliament from the Conservatives, and uses that opportunity to make the United States remove all nuclear weapons from British soil. This has the benefit of removing Britain as a target in the nuclear war that follows soon thereafter.

In real life (which the comic series is patterned after), the liberal British government (i.e. Labour), went through a systematic disarmament of the population, which continues to this day.

Personal ownership of firearms has been virtually eliminated, and now items such as kitchen knives ("potential weapons") are at risk of being restricted.

The "left-wingers" have made the people defenseless. Now, their government has zero reason whatsoever to be afraid of them.

They have paved the way for those big bad "right-wingers" to take advantage of the situation, and for events such as those portrayed in "V For Vendetta" to take place.

Take notice, those of you on the left.

People truly shouldn't be afraid of their government. For all your protestations that the conservative-led government under Bush is evil, and trying to take away our rights, there's one thing stopping them from doing so.

People like me. People like my friends and family. The same people that many of you have declared war upon, in your attempt to take away our firearms.

Right now, the government IS afraid of a large number of it's people.

If you want that to change, keep doing what you've been doing. Then we'll see just how much you like things.

All in all, the comic series is a remarkable example of the need for true Libertarian leadership.

I'll close this with another amusing observation.

One of the phrases you hear V saying during the preview is "Remember, remember, the fifth of November."

This is a reference to Guy Fawkes' Gunpowder Plot, where Fawkes and many others, in 1605, attempted to assassinate King James I and many other Protestant aristocrats by blowing-up the Houses of Parliament.

The entire first verse of the poem is:

Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
gunpowder, treason, and plot.
I see no reason
why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

Times, they are a-changin'.

Guy Fawkes Day, celebrated annually in Britain on November 5th, is a celebration of the foiling of Fawkes & Company's attempted assassination of the leadership of a fascist government.

Perhaps those of you in England need to seriously study your history, and start celebrating the attempt, instead.

Underworld: Evolution

Saw it with one of the roommates yesterday.

Pretty decent, fun to watch. A fair sequel-prequel.

Minimal plot gaffes/continuity issues.

Kate Beckinsale didn't get naked (well, not so that we could watch), though, the whore.

Scrubs

So, I bought Season 1 of this back in August of '05, when we started watching Dead Like Me.

Nearly 6 months later, I finally pick up the DVD set off the shelf, and decide to start watching it with one of the roommates.

DAMN, this is some funny shit!

If you've heard anything good about this show, you've heard right.

If you've heard anything negative about it, punch the person that said it in the face.

This show fucking RULES.

We finished Season 1 in a day and a half, and I picked up Season 2, which we finished in about the same amount of time - it's THAT good.

Season 3 is supposed to be released in February, but only in the UK/EU and Australia. We lowly peons in the US have to wait another month or two.

Dammit.

No Fucking Blanka or Honda!

So, Encore or Starz or something has been running all 29 episodes of Street Fighter II: V - the English-dubbed anime.

It's pretty decent, and goes into a LOT of character development, which is cool.

There's one big problem, though.

Basically, we're drawing on "Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers" for characters.

Completely left out of the show were E. Honda, Blanka, Dee Jay and T. Hawk.

Now, realisitically, those last two, no big deal - they were crappy characters - but, if you're going to use Cammy and Fei Long, use the other two.

Also, what the FUCK is up with leaving out Blanka and Honda?! That's just seriously messed up. At the very least, all of the characters from the original Street Fighter II should have been there.

Oh well. All in all, a pretty decent series. Could have wrapped things up a bit better, but it was acceptable.

G4

What the hell has happened to ZDTV/Tech TV?!

Beyond the rename to a horrendously stupid "G4", we have:

  • Re-runs of "Star Trek: The Next Generation"?
  • Re-runs of "The Man Show"?
  • Some faggy fucking urban-wannabe black guy named "Big C" hosting an equally stupid show called "Street Fury" about riceburners?
  • "Fastlane", the crappy buddy-cop show that got cancelled so fast, the actors got whiplash?

Jesus. Titty. Fucking. Christ.

The rest of the even worse channel line-up is even more crappy video game stuff.

Now, I like video games as much as the next nerd, but dammit, TechTV was something cool and unique. It wasn't supposed to be 90% about video games, and it sure as hell wasn't supposed to feature stupid shit like re-runs of "The Man Show" and that "Street Fury" poser bullshit.

I'm a huge Star Trek fan, too, but that shit doesn't belong on this channel, either.

"Screen Savers" is gone. "Call For Help" is gone.

No more Leo Laporte. No more Chris Pirillo. Gone are Cat Schwartz, Sumi Das, Kate Botello, Megan Morrone, Chris Leary, Martin Sargent and many more.

Out of all of the TechTV people left, they've got four:

Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb on "X-Play" (formery Gamespot TV, then Extended Play)
Brendan Moran and Sarah Lane on "Attack of the Show" (which they're claiming to be the former "Screen Savers")

I can't believe they got rid of Call For Help! Leo Laporte and Chris Pirillo rocked!

Leo Laporte appears to have a pretty decent job with his books and "podcasts" (God, I hate that term. It's a damned MP3. Stupid Apple and their stupid iPod's, creating stupid terms like "podcast".).

Chris Pirillo has his Lockergnome deal and his radio show.

Both seem to be doing quite well, which is awesome, but I still miss them on TechTV.

Ever since the merger with Comcast, this entire channel has gone to shit.

The only mildly watchable show is X-Play, and that's mainly due to Morgan Webb's body. She's unannoying most of the time, but Adam Sessler's stupid shit is eye-stabbingly horrid.

The sad part is, it seems like Sessler and Webb are scripted these days. Now, I could be wrong, but it sure didn't seem like the old shows were scripted for one-liners and cheese-ass jokes.

If they were, then someone needs to find those old writers, because whoever is churning out this tripe needs to be booted to the curb. Hopefully that's the explanation for Sessler's idiocy and Morgan's lack of personality lately, because I don't remember them being this bad.

BRING BACK THE OLD CHANNEL. BRING BACK THE OLD SHOWS. BRING BACK THE OLD CREW.

:(

Fun With Dick and Jane

Saw it last night...

Not too bad of a movie, until Alec Baldwin infuriated me with his "Now watch this shot!" bullshit comment.

I remember when I used to like him as an actor, and how I thought he made a much better Jack Ryan than Harrison Ford.

You know, I'm glad that Clancy hated Baldwin and wanted Ford instead, because Baldwin is a shiteater.

F.A.G. indeed.

Stupid Gay Cowboys

I'm getting sick and tired of all of the libtard assclowns carrying on about how "Brokeback Mountain" isn't a movie about "gay cowboys", it's a movie about "true love being denied" or some such other shit.

Here's an idea - perhaps put out a movie that doesn't have a political agenda, that tells virtually the same story, WITHOUT THE GAY COWBOYS FUCKING.

The left wonders why people don't like homosexuals.

I'll give you a clue - we're tired of having this stupid shit pushed down our throats, day in and day out.

We're tired of people carrying on about their sexuality. Keep that shit to yourselves, WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT.

God DAMN.

The Ringer

Goddamned FUNNY.

Great movie to wrap up Christmas night.

And, before all you PC idiots out there continue to rag on it, go fucking watch it. It portrayed the "mentally challenged" in a good light - in fact, Johnny Knoxville was the butt of just about all of the jokes.

Narnia!

So, we're up in Portland last night, and we decide to go see "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe".

I've been a humongous fan of the book series forever, and have been looking forward to this for a long time.

Such an excellent movie! I've got nothing bad to say about it!

The visuals were great, the talking animals didn't look goofy, everything about it was fantastic!

They held so close the the books that it was amazing. The only thing that I took issue with (and such a minor issue) was that I don't feel a certain character got to flaunt their skills as they did in the book.

I'm looking quite forward to the rest of the movies - they've got 6 books to work from, and if Harry Potter can be cranked out a movie a year, they should be able to do this one.

Zathura!

Fun movie.

It's Space-Jumanji, but, that was expected. I mean, it's not only by the same people who did "Jumanji", but the commercials completely gave away the plot, so you knew...

All in all, it was pretty fun.

Dax Shepard is pretty damned funny, as he was in "Without a Paddle", and I'm happy to see that he's in a few upcoming movies.

New Movies!

Stopped by Best Buy today, and picked up some new movies.

Got me the Special Edition of "Office Space" (With Flair!).

Not too bad. For $22 or whatever, it was worth it just for the DVD with added stuff. It came with a coffee mug, a mousepad, a notepad, a cheesy red stapler, a pen and a pencil.

They should have worked a deal with Swingline for a real red Swingline, and the "Lumberg Coffee Mug" should have been an Initech mug, not a mug with Lumberg's picture on it (and an Initech mug would have been cheaper...).

Oh well.

Also picked up a copy of "Land of the Dead", Romero's latest zombie flick, and a copy of "Night of the Living Dead", his first zombie flick.

The "Night" DVD is kinda cool - it's got the original Black-and-White version, remastered, and then it's got a version of it that's been colorized.

Pretty nifty.

Now I need to pick up copies of "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead", as well as the 1985 remake of "Night of the Living Dead"and the 1990 remake of "Dawn of the Dead", and my Romero Living Dead Collection will be complete!

Then, it's on to other zombie movies! YAY!

More Zombie Goodness!

So, I just found out today that the "Resident Evil" movie series is going to be a quadrilogy.

That's awesome.

Obviously, we've got:

"Resident Evil"
"Resident Evil: Apocalypse"

Slated next is:

"Resident Evil: Afterlife"

And then finally, an as yet unnamed sequel to finish off the series.

Hot diggity damn.

"RE: Afterlife" is slated for 2006, and the final movie for 2007, but they haven't even started filming for "RE: Afterlife", so if I had to guess, it'd be 2007 for that, and 2009 for the final.

Darn.

I don't want to wait that long!

On a side note, Radigast and I were discussing just how cool that Umbrella Security Forces logo on Fehr/Olivera's vest is.

That's pretty fucking nifty.

Resident Evil: Lebanon

So, it's Halloween, and Sci-Fi wasn't playing the good movies fast enough tonight, so I put in "Resident Evil", and followed that up with "Resident Evil: Apocalypse".

Now, of course, I'm a big fan of the zomibe-killing action-packed mayhem, but one of my favorite things about these movies has been the cast.

Being a Milla Jovovich fan is a no brainer...I saw one of her first movies, "The Night Train to Kathmandu", when I was 12 or so, and fell in love. Being 14 or 15 and seeing "Return to the Blue Lagoon" did nothing to cure that. "Fifth Element" was a fun movie, and she kicked ass in it, as well.

Eric Mabius, James Purefoy, Martin Crewes, Colin Samson - all great cast choices. Heike Makatsch is hella-fine, even if she did get all zombie'd up and then bashed in the head. Michelle Rodriguez, meh. She's OK, I guess. Cute enough, but I'm not a big fan of actors or actresses that display the same attitude in every single movie.

"RE: Apocalypse" kicked even more ass.

Milla is back, but this time she's joined by Sienna Guillory (who had far too small of a part in "The Time Machine", but more than made up for it in "Helen of Troy") and one of my favorite actors, Oded Fehr (who has kicked ass in every single thing he's ever been in).

It was also fun to see Zack Ward (Nicholai Ginovaeff, one of the Umbrella Security Forces) in a way different role than as Dave on "Titus". His part was far too small, as well, but at least he was given one of the better zombie-killing scenes in the movie.

I've actually owned "RE: Apocalypse" for over a year now, but haven't removed the shrink wrap from the DVD until tonight (saw it in the theatre).

It had a bonus disc inside, which I tossed in after the movie was over, and was watching some of the featurettes on it.

Now, it's no big secret that a lot of us gun enthusiasts like zombie movies. Imagine my delight when on my bonus disc, one of the featurettes is entitled "Big Guns"...

It starts off with the gun wrangler of the movie talking about some things, and then it jumps into mini-interviews with the cast.

My now ex-hero, Oded Fehr (who plays Carlos Olivera) says

"Personally, I don't like guns."

Now what kind of bullshit is that?

Fortunately, the girls in "RE: Apocalypse" aren't such little bitches as Oded "Pussy Boy" Fehr.

Milla Jovovich (Alice) says:

"We love our guns! They're just so sweet!"

Even if she did mistakenly call her twin MP5K's Uzi's. Three times.

Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine) says:

"If anyone tells you that guns aren't fun, they're lying. They're great fun!"

I love those girls.

I'm so happy that there's going to be another movie - "Resident Evil: Afterlife" (as they're calling it at the moment).

I can't wait to see the two of them back on the big screen, blasting away.

Sci-Fi Channel Is Tanking Again

So, last night was the premier of the "Sci-Fi Original Movie" Dungeons & Dragons - Wrath of the Dragon God.

Through all the previews, it actually looked good, unlike that stupid movie starring Thora "Nice Rack" Birch.

Well, yeah. Five minutes into it, and it was off.

Sci-Fi has been totally missing the boat lately, with their "Original Movies" and sucking it up.

Now, when they intend from the start for it to be a B-movie, like Chupacabra: Dark Seas or some such other crap, that's one thing, but when they promote a movie like it's going to actually be GOOD, with some excellent effects and previews, and then it turns out to have the crappiest script in the world - well, dammit, lame.

Overacting and horrible dialogue need to be cut out of ANY D&D movie, dammit.

I do have to say, however, that the little D&D game commercials every commercial break were kinda funny - especially the "Always Protect Your Cleric!" one right before/after the cleric got eaten by a dragon.

HAW HAW!

Philip K. Dick

So, I looked up all the movies that have been made from his stories, and it's a surprisingly short list.

The movies I have are in Bold:

Blade Runner
Total Recall
Screamers (a.k.a. Claw)
Total Recall 2070
Impostor
Minority Report
Paycheck
A Scanner Darkly (not yet in theatres)

I need to go buy a couple of DVD's.

I honestly can't believe that I don't own a copy of Blade Runner. I'm ashamed of myself.

Sad story, about him...

He was pretty much consistently broke his entire life.

He was a prolific writer, living from advance paycheck to advance paycheck, with royalties never seeming to come in.

Blade Runner was going to be his first BIG hit, and would have left him set, although not immediately, due to it's failure in the box office. Within a few years of it's release, it's cult following became immense, and today, Blade Runner is regarded as one of THE definitive genre-defining movies.

8 years later, Total Recall would come, and with it, box office mega success, ensuring that he'd have no money issues well into the next century, when Impostor, Minority Report and Paycheck were all released in rapid succession.

Philip K. Dick died less than 4 months before Blade Runner hit the screen.

=(

Serenity?

So, it opens tonight, and a roommate is out watching it.

I'm sure it will be good, but we'll be waiting until probably Tuesday night to see it.

Opening nights suck, yo.

Stupid Fall Off Season

So, last week was the mid-season finale of Stargate: SG-1, and tonight is the mid-season finale of Stargate Atlantis.

After tonight, we have to wait until freaking JANUARY to see new episodes of either show.

Dammit.

Oh well. This just means that I have time to be sociable on Friday nights, now - or actually attempt to watch Season 1 of Battlestar Galactica on DVD, since we stopped watching the show on TV...

Dead Like Me

So, my friends and I were talking about a TV show the other day, where this chick dies and becomes a Grim Reaper.

Couldn't remember the title until I was DVD shopping at Best Buy.

Found Season 1 of Dead Like Me on DVD there, and decided to buy a copy. Never seen the show, never seen a preview, just heard about the premise of the series.

And damn, do I make good purchases.

This show is fabulous! I'm sorry that I missed it when it was on the air, because it's DAMNED good.

As it stands, we've watched 10 of the 14 episodes of Season 1, and the show ended after Season 2, so I don't have a huge lot more to watch, unfortunately.

=(

Also picked up a copy of Team America and Season 1 of Scrubs.

Still need to find Season 3 of Roswell, dammit.

New DVD's

Picked up the following on DVD tonight:

Firefly (Complete Series)
Reno 911! (Season 1)
Reno 911! (Season 2)

Good stuff - I'm also glad that the companies aren't being ridiculous with their pricing - I notice that the X-Files season prices have dropped below $50/season now.

Still a bit steep, in my humble opinion, but it's a hell of a lot better than $80 or $90 per season prices.

OK, time for Stargate SG-1.

BAI BAI!

I'm a tool...

Fucking shit.

I was wrong.

Jay Williams didn't play Ra.

Jaye Davidson played Ra.

Jay Williams may be the brother of Peter Williams, the guy who plays Apophis (in Part 2).

Fucking lame. I got all hopped up - the first name was correct, and my brain put things together incorrectly.

Well, Ra's still in it, so that's cool - I just wish it was the same Ra.

And I just noticed something. Kawalsky will be back in Part 2 of the finale. That's cool.

But, throughout the series, Kawalsky was a Major - did he get demoted? In the movie, he was a Lieutenant Colonel.

Major Davis will be back, as well. I'm kind of curious how he hasn't gotten promoted to at least an LTC. He was a Major back when Carter was still a Captain - she's gotten at least two, if not three, promotions since then.

And Davis is still a Major.

According to IMDB, Hammond is also a Brigadier General - which would put him at the same rank as O'Neill. Didn't they give Hammond his second star, and promote him to Major General?

Something is fishy here.

And, seriously - what the fuck is up with not getting Jaye Davidson back to reprise the role as Ra? It's not like he's been doing ANYTHING AT ALL with his acting career, goddammit.

ATTENTION STARGATE FANS

Hey, just a quick heads-up:

If you're a Stargate fan like we are, don't miss this Friday's (03-18-05) episode of SG-1!

It's part one of a two-part season finale. Good things are in store.

First, there WILL be a 9th season of SG-1.

Secondly, as they keep previewing, SG-1 goes back in time with that jumper + time machine that they found. Cool beans, I love time travel stories.

But that's not the best part!

The best part is, they've gotten Jay Williams back to reprise his role as Ra from the movie Stargate!!

THAT'S RIGHT! RA WILL BE IN THIS FRIDAY'S EPISODE OF SG-1!!!

Don't miss it!

Can Will Smith be unfunny?

OK, OK...barring a significant portion of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", can Will Smith be unfunny?

Hitch is a friggin hilarious movie. You must go see it. HOT HOT HOT womens, and Will Smith and his big ears.

Comedy gold, my friends.

Movies!!

Elektra - GREAT SEQUEL TO DAREDEVIL! It's right up there as one of the best Marvel movies! One of the first/only movies that I've seen that has the younger kid/sidekick/protege in a completely un-fucking-annoying role.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - Other than the cute little 16 year old Emily Browning (playing Violet Baudelaire), the movie really wasn't that great. Maybe the books are a lot better, I dunno. The feeling I got from it was that there seemed to be a lot of description/build-up of the characters, yet the characters weren't utilized to their full potential.

As I said, I haven't read the books, but what I got from the movie is that you have Violet - the inventor, Klaus - the reader, and Sunny - the biter.

Violet is supposed to be an ingenious spontaneous inventor (a'la Rube Goldberg), Klaus is supposed to posess unrivaled knowledge on just about anything, since he's read nearly every book known to man, and Sunny can bite through anything.

So, you've got a pretty good team there - yet they really didn't do anything in the movie.

And don't get me started about Jim Carrey - I don't know what it is, but he's just not really funny anymore. He was actually quite annoying in this movie.

I'll have to start reading the books, I suppose.

In Good Company - OK, so, Dennis Quaid is cool, Topher Grace is hilarious, and Scarlett Johansson is so damned hot (and talented, lest I forget).

Great ensemble cast, great great movie.

It's funny - Johansson was in Lost in Translation, so I understand there's going to be a subconscious comparison with her other roles, but this movie honestly had the same vibe as Lost. I suppose there was more an actual defined plot in Company, but it really had the same "day in the life" vibe, which if done correctly, is probably one of my favorite types of movies. Definitely a purchase when it comes out on DVD.

Hey, wow - I just realized that this was actually a review, and not too horrible of one at that.

I rock.

White Noise is creepy cool!

DUDE!

Great movie, great jump-out-of-your-skin moments without having to do a lot of special effects stuff.

VERY cool!

Fat Albert!

Enjoyable.

Not blockbuster, but fun.

Am I the only one that thought that the "loser" sister was about a billion times hotter than the "hot" sister that everyone kept going on about?

Wimbledon!

Paul Bettany is a stud.

He was freaking awesome in "A Knight's Tale", and was hilarious in this (thank you, Tina!).

Gonna have to check out some other stuff of is.

Looks like he was in "Master and Commander", which looked OK, so I'll probably pick that up on DVD.

Wow, almost done packing!

So, most everything is packed up, save for the last little stuff I'll need for the final week of actual "living" here.

I gotta say, though, I'm not looking forward to the inevitable final cleanup of this place. I might just very well let this place eat my deposit...

I mean, I've cleaned the oven and the range top, and I'll clean the bathroom, which is all the hard stuff, right?

(BTW - Alien vs. Predator was pretty decent, for a cheesy action/horror deal...)

Lindsay Lohan is a hottie...

...but goddammit, "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" was even gayer than "New York Minute" with the Olsen twins.

I can't believe Disney actually funded that crap.

"The Butterfly Effect" was a pretty cool movie, though. Stupid movie reviewers.

Bourne again!

HAR HAR!

Went to see it with some friends today, again.

I'll definately buy it on DVD, but dammit.

Marie ain't supposed to get it.

July 24, 2004

Bourne!

Bourne was a cool movie, but I'm getting sick of them twisting characters to something they aren't, adding in characters that didn't need to be there (I like Julia Stiles, A LOT, but dammit, what the fuck?) and then killing off characters that shouldn't be killed.

GODDAMMIT.

On a better note, I saw the new apartment today. Hella sweet, 200sq. ft. bigger than this rathole, and they're less than a year old.

And, again, they're closer to work!

Yay for that. I hate my commute.

GO SEE I, ROBOT, DAMMIT.

I, Robot!

OK, badass. They managed to stay really true to the emotion and idea of the book, while making an extremely cool action/sci-fi movie.

We need more robot movies. Robot's kick ass (especially the Nestors!).

King Arthur is pretty badass...

Keira Knightley is sooooooooo damned fine.

And it's about time I see Clive Owen kicking some ass. He's so badass. He rocked in all those BMW films.

Funny, good, not horror-like, as the original was.

Not a bad flick for a matinee - I wouldn't have paid the late-night fee, had I known how it was.

Blar.

RIDDICK!

Saw Riddick today.

Pseudo-spoilers ahead, yo.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

OK, so.

I thought "Chronicles of Riddick" was supposed to be the PREQUEL to Pitch Black, goddammit.

The sequel was supposed to be Pitch Black 2, where Jack comes back to find Riddick for some reason, and Riddick has been holing himself up on the planet where the nasty night monsters are, because someone would have to be an idiot to go looking for him on that planet.

Chronicles was supposed to explain why Riddick was an evil bastard, why he was so badass, etc.

They make no bones about telling you 47 times throughout the movie that Riddick is an evil murdering slime.

Why is it, then, that he never kills, except in self-defense, or heroically slaying bad(der?) guys?

I hear that "Chronicles of Riddick - Escape from Butcher Bay" is supposed to be a really badass computer game, and has a lot of official story in it, but that kinda crap pisses me off.

I suppose I'm glad that they're making these games that aren't just a cheese-ass re-enactment of the movie and stuff, and this isn't neccessarily as bad as what they did with Matrix.

That's fucked up - key bits of storyline are left out of the movies, and plopped into the computer games.

Fuckers.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Fucking awesome...

This movie, more than the others, seems to have left quite a bit out of the book, but the main stuff is there, and the general story is left intact.

Pretty damned enjoyable.

And you know, I've read the books - I know that Harry has a thing for Cho (who we have yet to meet in the movies, and the third one is out now, dammit...), and I know that Rowling is writing it so that Ron and Hermione hook up. It still pisses me off when Hermione is getting busy with Ron - she should be with Harry, dammit.

Ron is a turd. And a tard.

Emma Watson is going to be growed up real nice though, quite probably even nicer than the Olsen twins.

The new Dumbledore isn't bad at all - quite good, in fact.

Final note - I just read that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) commented that he hasn't signed on yet for the fifth film. His quote:

“I’m not going to lie and say it will be absolutely easy to see someone else play the part because it will be extremely strange after four films,” Radcliffe said. “But if it happens it will be something I will have to get used to. I’m not saying it will happen but it’s a possibility.”

That's going to just right piss me off. I realize that as people get older, or time goes by, they may get tired of it.

But, dammit - these movies made him - he had NO career before them, and how he's a multi-millionaire.

We all know that there's only going to be 7 books, and therefore, 7 movies.

He's already signed on for 4 of the 7, so just fucking finish them out, goddammit.

Raising Helen

So, I saw Raising Helen today.

Good movie, and yes, indeed, Kate Hudson is a little cutie.

There's been a lot of good movies out this year, seemingly more than normal.

Keep it up, Hollywood!

Hidalgo!

Saw this at Salem's new "Dinner Theatre Pub" thing.

Not bad.

$3.00 admission, you can buy dinner there, and they also serve beer.

Pretty sweet.

I don't know that I'd pay much more than $3.00 to see this in the theatre, but it was an enjoyable movie.

May 08, 2004

I watch a lot of movies...

I just realized that with all my posts lately, a lot of them are "I saw this movie and it was cool/crap" kind of posts.

That's annoying.

And, I watch a lot of movies, at least lately.

Like, tonight. I went and saw Van Helsing.

Not a bad flick. Hugh Jackman is cool, and Kate Beckinsale is awesome.

She kicked ass in Underworld, and kicked more ass in this movie.

And, she has a nice ass.

So, this post is all about ass.

Or not.

Hey, you should go watch "Serendipity", too.

It's got John Cusack in it, and if that's not enough, it has Kate Beckinsale's hot ass in it, as well.

MMmmmmm!

"New York Minute" sucks balls...

The Olsen girls are pretty damned cute throughout the movie, but it's incredibly annoyingly stupid.

Don't waste the money, unless you just want to ogle the Olsen Twins.

Mean Girls

Went and saw Mean Girls today - pretty damned funny movie.

It's funny, because I'll see previews for movies that look good, and the normal "crowd" of people I hang out with are like "Oh, you're gay!" "You pussy" and shit like that, because either it's a girlie movie, or a kids movie, or whatever.

So, I'll go see them with either Tina or Josh, and they're usually pretty damned good movies.

Anyhow, Mean Girls kicks ass. The wimminz in it are SOOOOOOOO goddamned hot (and Tina, before you say ANYTHING - Lindsay Lohan (the main character (stacked redhead)) is 2 months shy of being legal - the rest are well beyond legal. In fact, one of the main girls is older than I am.

HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT.

Damn.

Punisher

Saw it tonight with Chad, Jim and Matt (who was down from the PDX area for the weekend).

Quite a decent movie. In fact, I think all the Marvel movies of late have been good enough to add to the DVD collection.

I need more of a life, so I can write about more than movies I've seen. I'm not even giving any kind of decent review, dammit.

Must see movies!!

So, you've all seen Shrek, right?

Great movie, incredibly hilarious.

I strongly urge you all to go watch "Ella Enchanted".

Very much along the same lines as Shrek, and, I just can't say enough good things about it. If you liked Shrek, you'll like this movie.

Speaking of Shrek, I just saw the previews for Shrek 2. Very nice. Very nice, indeed.

50 First Dates

So, Tina and I went to see this movie tonight - pretty damned good. Probably Sandler's best stuff, right up there with "The Wedding Singer".

Go watch it, it'll rock you.

And Drew Barrymore is soooooooooooooo damned hot.

And I'm going to shoot someone at work - I'm getting sick of being called in due to someone else's stupidity.

So, holy crap, 3hrs42min running time, and my butt is sore.

BUT DAMN RETURN OF THE KING KICKS ASS!!!

Elf is great!

Saw Elf today.

Well worth watching. Dopey Christmas movies kick ass, as does Will Ferrell.

And wow, Zooey Deschanel.

I've only seen her in Mumford, The New Guy, and now Elf, but she's gotten infinitely more gorgeous each time, and she's absolutely stunning in this movie.

A welcome change from fake-bodied actresses (not that I'm against all of them - or would mind being against them, as it turns out...).

Another short entry.

Saw "The Rundown" this weekend. Highly enjoyable.

Went shooting - I really dig my new Mark II. Also highly enjoyable.

Finally, peace to my homey Don. He packed up his family and moved to Arizona today. Good luck, buddy.
