This Is Why You Buy Domestic Produce!

Scorpion stings girl shopping for watermelons

12-year-old was at a West Virginia Wal-Mart when she was stung

updated 1 hour, 42 minutes ago

BARBOURSVILLE, West Virginia - One young shopper at a Wal-Mart in West Virginia had to watch out for more than falling prices.

A 12-year-old girl picking up a seedless watermelon from a bin was stung Sunday by a tan, inch-long scorpion that had apparently stowed away in a shipment from Mexico.

Megan Templeton, of Barboursville, was taken to the hospital as a precaution but later released. Her father, William Templeton, said the pain was a little worse than a bee sting.

He initially did not believe his daughter when she said she had been stung by a scorpion, but then he saw the it scurry underneath a box. It was captured by Wal-Mart employees.

Most of the nearly 2,000 kinds of scorpions are not dangerous to humans.

Richard Coyle, senior director of international affairs for Wal-Mart, said store employees believe the problem was with a single shipment of watermelons.

"We are very concerned," he said. "This is a very rare incident. When I spoke with the store manager, she said in her 17 years she had never heard of something like this."

You know, the one thing I really don't understand about this is - who the fuck is growing the produce in Mexico? I thought they were all on this side of the border, growing it here.

Movies...

We saw Iron Man about 3 weeks ago, and so far, it's the best Marvel movie out there. If you're at all into the stuff, or just like cool technology, you should watch this.

Gwyneth Paltrow somehow managed to be unannoying, and slightly attractive in this. I don't know how they pulled that shit off, but they did. CGI does wonders.

We saw Prince Caspian (the new Narnia movie) last Tuesday, and it was pretty good. Overall, both movies have been pretty good, but there's always a few elements that leave these movies wanting.

Proper casting (Caspian was described a number of times as "golden-haired" in the books, and Lewis had a pretty good idea of how he wanted Caspian to look, yet they get someone dark-haired. Not a big gripe, but still) would be a great one.

The whole stupid tree battle was kinda lame - in the books, Aslan riled up all the sleeping naiads, dryads, TONS of sleeping Narnians, and brought this army to the battlefield. In the movie, it looked like a rip-off of LotR.

Finally, the little flirty budding romance crap between Caspian and Susan was weak. It never happened in the books, and it's just a stupid addition to the movie. Of course, Susan's part in this movie had to be played up - by the book, she doens't have a ton of screen time - but turning her into female-Legolas in the middle of the battle was kinda stupid.

To round things off, we saw the new Indiana Jones flick on Thursday night. If you haven't seen it, too bad, because I'm going to spoil bits and pieces.

All told, it was a decent movie, but Last Crusade and Raiders of the Lost Ark were better. We could have done without Shia LaBeouf swinging on vines with the monkeys, and instead, having him pick up Indy's dropped whip, and hurting himself with it.

There's more cool movies coming out soon - Hancock looks pretty good, even if Will Smith is turning into Tom Cruise's pet.

Stupid Weather, Stupid Illness

So, the heatwave subsides, and temps drop back down to between the 40's and 50's at night, which blows ass. I installed my AC, and now it's too cold at night. If the AC wasn't a pain in the ass to install/remove, I'd yank it back out.

I took all of next week off, and was supposed to go to a party at some friend's place today, but I come down with some nasty cold/cough shit yesterday.

My head is all plugged up, and everything blows ass.

Stupid.

It's Hot.

It's really fucking hot.

Two to three weeks ago, it started to warm up a bit, to the point that we didn't really need a heater.

Then, temperatures plunged to freezing, we even got snow.

Over the last 3-4 days, we've been in the 90's - yesterday, the temp rose to 100.

It's about 95 out right now, which is messed up.

I went from having a heater on in my bedroom at night, to mounting my air conditioner yesterday because it was too hot to even breathe.

I think Al Gore must have gotten the Global Warming Machine repaired, which would seem to indicate his battle with ManBearPig is complete.

Back From The Coast

Back from the coast.

It's nice to be completing a lot of the stuff we've been doing, but I tell you what, I'm getting REAL tired of this early morning weekend shit.

It's about 4:30pm right now, and I've been home since about 8:30am, but sleeping most of the day. I'm gonna be dog-tired tomorrow, due to this fucked-up sleep schedule.

UGH.

Death of this site?

Well, maybe not the death, but definitely more infrequent posting.

A while back, I moved from a "daily" posting schedule to an "every other day", and that's just getting annoying to keep up.

My heart really isn't into posting that frequently, and I find I have work that interests me, so I don't really feel like dicking around that much.

Further, I've configured the blog to show the last 5 posts, rather than the last 7 days of posts, which, if I haven't posted, shows dick.

This way, it looks like there's content.

I'll still post when I have something I feel is necessary, but as of right now, there's not a ton.

Learn to love it. I'll still be here.
